Integrate low cost, high impact human focused energy management into operations by linking energy behaviours with business objectives to reduce waste, plan for future requirements, minimize facility complications, improve safety and reduce greenhouse gases. Put your team’s creativity, skills and experience to work in professionally designed and delivered sessions. We focus on strengths and resources you already have in place to achieve energy savings. These participatory workshops blend just enough new learning with existing expertise so participants feel confident about what can be accomplished.
Previous Energy Behaviour Projects
★ Award Winning ENERGY CONNECT
Kady Cowan created Energy Connect in 2015 at Atrium Health (the second largest public health network in North America) with a team of outside experts and internal hospital staff. Energy Connect embraces complexity through human-centered innovation rooted in training, capacity building and culture shift. Six energy behaviour interventions were designed and tested across six healthcare facilities with verified results showing annual energy savings ranging from 2% to 25% at 5 out of 6 pilot locations. Energy Connect was rolled out across the entire health system in 2018. Kady was awarded energy innovator of the year from the AEE (American Energy Engineers) in 2018 and the program was featured as a Tools of Change leading practice case study here.
★ IESO - BEST Training
While Kady Cowan was at Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), she collaborated with See Change Institute to develop and pilot a “Behaviour, Energy, Sustainability Training” (BEST) course for commercial energy managers and building operators in Ontario. This course served to fill an identified market gap and to improve their literacy in behavioural theory and techniques. Course participants reported positive feedback and tangible results when they returned to work. Results were published in the 2020 ACEEE Summer study proceedings here.
★ TLC - Thermostats, Lights and Controls
In 2007, Kady Cowan led the Energy and Environment team at University Health Network (UHN, one of the largest hospitals in Canada) to launch an innovative energy management program called TLC: Thermostats, Lights and Controls. TLC’s goal was to decrease energy use by 15% through conservation and efficiency ($1,000,000 and 10,000 tonnes of CO2). By 2013, TLC was actively contributing to UHN’s annual energy savings goal of $2.35 million.
